How to Navigate the Historic Center of Peschici on Foot

The historic center of Peschici might feel like a small maze. Alleys twist, sea views pop up suddenly, and many streets look alike. But it's easier to navigate than it seems. Just follow the landmarks and the natural shape of the village's promontory.

Visiting Peschici's historic center doesn't take long. Walking straight through takes about 15-30 minutes. But to explore the alleys, viewpointsviewpoints, shops, and squares, plan for 2 hours.

If it's your first visit, start from the new town via Corso Garibaldi to Porta del Ponte. This is the old monumental entrance with its arch and the Angevin-Aragonese watchtower. It lets you visit the historic center mostly on flat or gently sloping paths, passing main streets, artisan shops, and squares.

From the Castle to Piazza del Popolo: How to Get Around

The historic center sits on a rocky spur overlooking the Adriatic. So, it's almost impossible to really get lost. Keep heading towards the sea, and you'll reach the farthest part of the village. There, you'll find the Castle of Peschici and some amazing panoramic viewpoints.

If you find yourself wandering through side alleys, just follow an uphill road. In a few minutes, you'll be back on the main street of the historic center.

There are three places that help you get your bearings without a map. If you spot one during your visit, you'll know exactly where you are in the historic center. There's Piazza del Popolo and the Church of Sant'Elia Prophet in the heart of the village's historic center. The Castle of Peschici is at the highest and most scenic point of the promontory.

How to return to the entrance.

Once you reach the Castle, you have two options. The easiest way is to retrace the main streets (like Via Castello) back to Porta del Ponte in just a few minutes. Alternatively, you can take the more scenic route along the promontory's side. Walking along the ancient walls offers stunning views of the harbor before you head back to the new part of town.

If you arrive in Peschici by car, avoid driving into the historic center. With the ZTL, narrow streets, and parking difficulties, it's better to leave your car in the outer parking areas and walk.
