Where to Park in Monopoli to Visit the Historic Center
Three free areas, short walking paths, evening shuttles, and practical tips for leaving your car near the old town.
If you want to visit the heart of Monopoli, it's best to park outside the historic center, especially in the evening.
The area has limited traffic zones. In summer, evening pedestrian zones further restrict vehicle circulation. From Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, it's from 7 PM to midnight. On Friday and Saturday, it's from 7 PM to 1 AM the next day.
So, it's ideal to leave your car outside and walk. There are 3 municipal areas with free parking 24/7.
The ex cement factory parking on Via Nazario Sauro is the most convenient. It's close to the historic walls and the sea. You can easily walk to Cala Portavecchia and the old town entrance from there.
In the more peripheral area, there's the park and ride on Via Nievo. The city provides a free shuttle service. It connects the parking to Via Cialdini in the Murattiano district, about 300 meters from the central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.
Near the train station, you'll find the park and ride on Via Arenazza. It's the farthest from the sea and old town. The entrance isn't well-marked and can be easy to miss. I didn't see "Via Arenazza" on signs, just "Parcheggio Stazione FS". The area is actually behind the station.
I've personally used these parking lots. You can walk to the historic center from all three. Even from the farthest one, it takes about twenty minutes max. So, if you don't mind walking, the shuttle is handy but not necessary.
The shuttle service runs from 7 PM to 2 AM, with a frequency of about 25 minutes. To check the bus arrival, you can use the free Mobility Monopoli app. It shows the shuttle's real-time location, wait time, and full route on the map.
