Bari Vecchia by car: parking, access, and luggage

Where to leave the car, parking costs, and practical solutions to reach the accommodation avoiding fines and inconveniences

Bari Vecchia by car: parking, access, and luggage

Bari Vecchia is a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL), where car access is regulated.

If you want to stay in the Bari Vecchia area, remember that it's not easy to reach your accommodation by car, even for unloading luggage.

Booking a place in the historic center doesn't automatically grant you permission to enter the ZTL.

Before booking or leaving, ask your accommodation about parking and luggage access solutions.

This is important if you're traveling with kids or people who have trouble walking. Also, the village streets are paved with smooth local stone, making it hard to carry luggage manually.

There are several private parking lots near Bari Vecchia, but I found Park & Ride Vittorio Veneto more practical and affordable. You can reach the center with their shuttle service.

If you leave your car only during the day, you can use Vittorio Veneto - Lato Mare. It's open from 5:15 AM to 11:30 PM. The cost is 1 € per day, including parking and a dedicated bus service for the driver.

If you want to leave the car overnight or for several days, choose Vittorio Veneto - Lato Città (marked as Lato Terra). It's open 24/7. During Park & Ride hours, it costs 1 €, including parking and a dedicated bus service for the driver. At night, from 11:31 PM to 5:14 AM, parking costs 0.50 € per hour or part of an hour.

I personally found this option very practical for leaving the car and walking around. The only issue might be finding a spot, especially during busy times.

A solution for luggage transport

During my stay, I found a place that organized this well. They told me where to leave my car outside the historic center. They arranged transport for people and luggage with a vehicle authorized to enter.

It was very convenient, but it's not a common service. Talking to other tourists, I learned some got fined for entering with a car without authorization.

I think more places could adopt this service: inform guests where to park when booking and, if possible, organize transport for guests and luggage. Traffic restrictions would stay the same, but arriving for those staying in the historic center would be much easier.
