Discover the Hidden Paradise of Monopoli

South of Monopoli, towards Capitolo, Lido Cala Paradiso is the opposite of Cala Verde. Here, you don't need to search for a path to the beach or drive on dirt roads. You arrive, park, enter, and find everything organized. It's a lido built on the cliffs, offering a wide-open view of the Adriatic. It's perfect for me, though my wife prefers Cala Verde 🙃.

The location is one of its strengths. From the rocky platforms, your gaze stretches far, and on clear days, the sea shows deep, vivid colors. You'll find terraces with loungers and umbrellas spaced out nicely. Everything is set up for relaxation, without needing to improvise.

It's great for families: no uneven paths or dirt roads under the sun with bags and umbrellas. You arrive, and you're already enjoying your beach day.

One clear advantage is the spacious, reserved parking, just a few meters from the entrance. It removes the stress of finding a parking spot, especially in high season. It costs 5 euros, even during busy months, and it's not makeshift or rough. You park, get out, and you're right on the beach. It's convenient whether you choose the equipped lido or prefer nearby free areas.

If you're staying in the historic center of Monopoli, you can skip the car entirely. It's about a 15-20 minute walk, even less by bike. Many locals prefer this, as returning to the center might mean searching for parking. With limited traffic zones, few spaces, and July-August tourist influx, it's common to spend 10-20 minutes finding a free spot.

Inside the beach club, there's a small but well-organized bar and restaurant. It doesn't have a huge menu: just a few specialties, but they're done well. Simple Puglian dishes, perfect for a quick lunch, with prices that are fair for the setting. The staff, especially at the bar, are friendly and helpful.

We stopped by for an aperitif. I must say, the atmosphere is more relaxed compared to the larger establishments in Capitolo, though I'm not saying there's no relaxation there.

There are some downsides. The beach club prices aren't low: about 45 euros with parking included, which is higher than some places in Savelletri. If you're coming from Cala Verde, where entry is free and costs are nearly zero, you'll notice the difference. Also, the shower isn't always as functional as you'd expect at this level.

The sea here is rocky. You won't find a wide sandy beach: you descend from the cliff and enter the water via ladders or equipped spots. It's easier than the uneven rocks at Cala Verde. Water shoes can still be useful. But the water is clear, inviting you to swim and snorkel. Just past the first meter, the bottom becomes rocky with low slabs, small natural steps, and cracks where you find damselfish, young seabream, and small schools of fish. On calm days, visibility is excellent, and even staying near the platforms, you can see sea urchins among the rocks, low algae, and small crevices that make the area interesting without needing to swim far. It's easy snorkeling, accessible even for beginners, but varied enough to not be boring. A bit like what you can do in the coves of Savelletri.
