Cala Cerasa: Sea and Relax
Cala Cerasa is a seaside gem in Monopoli, Puglia, perfect for relaxation and tranquility.
Cala Cerasa is halfway between Monopoli and Porto Ghiacciolo. This stretch of coast has many small coves. You can easily drive there along the coastal road. Once you arrive, there's a paid parking lot for beach access. It's a great stop during a day exploring this coastal area.
We traveled from Bari to Monopoli by train. The trip is short, with frequent and reliable connections. However, trains are often packed with young tourists. For me, the train is more convenient and cheaper than driving. Once in Monopoli, two friends picked us up by car, and we headed to the cove.
As soon as we arrived, we looked for the famous door facing the sea. It's become one of the most photographed spots recently. Social media made it popular. You often see it online, so naturally, we stopped to take the same picture. It's beautiful because it frames the cove like a summer postcard.
The beach is well-maintained and spread over several levels. There are plenty of spaces with umbrellas and various equipped areas. To reach the sea, you go down a well-designed stepped path. The cove is narrow and cozy, with clear water. Near the rocks, you can snorkel. Remember, water shoes help you move safely in and out.
We had lunch at the restaurant, and it was great. Sure, prices aren't low. They're similar to other local beaches. In Monopoli, everything's well-kept and popular. Prices have gone up in recent years.
I noticed something odd about some details. You pay about 40 euros for two sunbeds and an umbrella. You'd expect showers included, but they cost extra (about 50 cents).
Overall, the place offers good value for what it provides. I recommend booking during peak season. Sunbeds and umbrellas sell out fast, even in advance.
Monopoli is a beautiful city, especially on foot between the center and the seafront. It's very convenient. The train station is near the historic center, which faces the sea. Perfect for an aperitif. Personally, if you want a day at the beach without spending much, head a bit south. There, you'll find free beaches and a calmer vibe.
