Mobility Guide for Tourists in Trani
Learn how to easily navigate Trani with this practical guide.
Getting to Trani is easy, but plan well in summer. The best way is by train or park your car outside the historic center. Finding parking inside is often pointless. You might get fined because of the limited traffic zone (ZTL).
I asked myself these questions before leaving. I decided to go to Trani for the tango festival. It wasn't a random visit. I knew there would be more people and some travel challenges.
Trani is a compact city. From the port to the historic center and the seafront, distances are short and easy to walk.
The station is close to the center. You can walk to the port in about 10-15 minutes (around 1 km). From Bari, the regional train takes about half an hour and costs just over 3 euros. Long-distance trains don't make much sense here. They cost more and don't save significant time. For me, the train was the best choice. I knew parking during the festival would be tough. The only real downside is the return trip. Trains to Bari aren't frequent at night, and the last one is around 11 PM. If you miss it, you have to wait for the first morning trains, around 5 AM.
If you're driving, park just outside the center. It's easier to walk from there. Driving into the inner areas is tricky and not very useful. The best parking spots are the blue zones near Piazza Castello and Piazza Re Manfredi. These are close to the Cathedral. Or you can use the Castello Svevo parking.
The port is where everything seems to start. From there, you enter the historic center, walk along the sea, and quickly reach main attractions like the cathedral.
Time is on your side here: in half a day, you get a good sense of the city. With more time, you can explore and relax at your own pace.
