Best Places to Stay in Lecce for Value
Discover the best places to stay in Lecce for great value.
In Lecce, the issue isn't finding a place to sleep. It's figuring out where you should really stay.
If you want a quick answer, here it is:
First time and want to walk everywhere → historic center
Have a car and want to spend less → Piazza Mazzini area / just outside
Staying one night → historic center
Staying several days → outside the center
Best value for money → Mazzini area
If it's your first time in Lecce and you want to walk everywhere, the best choice is the historic centerhistoric center, among baroque buildings and alleys that change completely at night.Step outside and you're already surrounded by everything: restaurants, bars, monuments. You save time. The only downside is managing your car: parking is tricky.
If you have a car and want to spend less without hassle, consider the Piazza Mazzini area or even better, just outside.Prices drop a bit, and parking becomes slightly easier. You can still reach the center on foot in 10-15 minutes, no problem.
If you're staying just one night, it's better to choose the historic center. You have little time: being there saves unnecessary travel.
If you're staying several days, it's better to stay outside the center. After your first tour, you know Lecce well. You don't need to be in the most central spot anymore. Staying outside lets you return at night without searching for parking for half an hour. You get a bigger room and pay less per night. You can still enjoy the center whenever you want, but without daily hassles. Especially if you want to go to the beach. It's also easier to leave the city.
If you're looking for the best value for money, practically speaking, the most balanced option is just outside the center (Mazzini area). You pay less, move easily, and don't miss out on the center experience.
I don't always choose B&Bs. When looking for accommodation, I also check -- often first -- if there are hotels with affordable prices. Sometimes the value is better there, especially if the location saves you on taxis or public transport.
For example, I tried the Grand Hotel, near the station: around €90 per night. You get off the train and in minutes you're in your room. The same goes for when you leave. No need for buses or taxis, which is a real saving.
However, near Lecce station, there's not much around: no minimarkets, for example. So, buying simple things like a toothbrush or toothpaste becomes inconvenient. For food, the only immediate option is a kebab. If you don't want that, you'll need to walk a bit to find alternatives.
It's a convenient area for those traveling only by train, but it's not where I'd choose to truly enjoy the city.
