Bike rental in Lecce for city exploration

We had walked a lot in the previous days. We were starting to feel tired. But we didn't want to miss Lecce and its Baroque. On one hand, we were exhausted. On the other, we needed to see the details. So, we decided to be tourists on bicycles.

We chose a guided bike-rickshaw tour, mainly for convenience. We wanted to move without walking more. But we didn't want something too "touristy" either.

At first, it was quite an adventure. We got lost in the alleys before reaching via Duca Degli Abruzzi. They came to pick us up. We really appreciated that.

The tour around Lecce was very pleasant and smooth. It was my first time trying a bike-rickshaw. Seeing places in a non-standard way helps a lot. It gives you different, more vivid feelings. You're not as slow as walking when tired. But you're not as distant as in a car. You remain a living part of the city.

The guide, Francesca, really made a difference. It wasn't about the amount of information, but the way she shared it. You could tell she had a real passion for art history and Lecce. Her explanations weren't scripted. The information was essential, never too much, and helped you truly appreciate what you were seeing. Without a guide, or some prior research, Lecce might just seem superficial: you see it, but don't fully understand it.

In the end, I realized this choice let us see Lecce better, despite being tired.

Even if I were rested, I'd probably do something similar. Or maybe I'd rent a bike. Lecce is a city you can explore without a set path, even wandering a bit, visiting less crowded streets.

And there's an unexpected aspect: doing it together feels almost intimate. It's not just about getting around, but a different way to experience the city.

During our tour, we visited some main spots: Piazza Mazzini, the Castello Carlo V, the city walls, and Piazza Sant'Oronzo.

Practical note: In Lecce, there are several ways to rent bikes and move around easily. The historic center has limited traffic, so it's easier and less stressful to explore. Arriving by car and finding parking, however, isn't easy at all.
