The must-see Mike Bongiorno statue in Cervinia
The Mike Bongiorno statue in Cervinia is an unmissable symbol.
The statue of Mike Bongiorno in Cervinia isn't new. It's been there for years. Cervinia isn't just about skiing. It also has stunning views and a charming historic center to enjoy even outside winter.
While wandering around, I stumbled upon Mike Bongiorno's statue. I was taking selfies for Instagram and didn't know it was there. The bronze bust, designed by Guido Mariani from Monza and made by Fonderia Valsesia, sits on a stone base from Valle d'Aosta. It shows Mike holding skis and giving his classic wave to viewers.
The statue is in the square in front of Breuil church. The square is beautiful because you can see the Matterhorn from there. For trekking lovers like me, it's a gateway to the world of parks.
Seeing it there, in such an iconic setting, was almost surprising. Childhood memories flashed back: evenings in front of the TV, a familiar presence for generations.
The sculpture is beautiful, especially for its expressiveness. Personally, I wouldn't have chosen a half-bust. I'd prefer a full figure. But that's just my opinion. It doesn't diminish the work's value. It's definitely successful and evocative.
