The most romantic places to stroll in Trani
Trani offers romantic spots ideal for unforgettable strolls.
When I arrived in Trani, I had a simple plan: take a walk with my wife between the sea and the historic center, without rushing.
In a city like this, the route almost plans itself. You start at the seafront, pass by the harbor, and then your eyes are inevitably drawn to the Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, which seems to rise straight from the water.
After walking among the boats at the harbor and the cathedral square, we decided to continue a bit further. Just a few minutes away is the Villa Comunale, one of the city's most peaceful spots.
As soon as you enter, the atmosphere changes immediately. The hustle of the harbor, the restaurants, and people strolling along the seafront are left behind. You step into a garden with tree-lined paths, benches, and views opening to the sea.
The villa was built in the early 1800s. It sits in a unique spot: a public garden right on the coast. As you walk among the trees, you often catch glimpses of the Adriatic. In some places, you can also see the cathedral's profile overlooking the city.
Strolling peacefully, you'll find fountains and well-kept flower beds. There are also some intriguing features, like the aviary and turtles living in the garden. You'll also notice nods to the city's history. There are some ancient Via Traiana milestones and the Monument to the Fallen.
The main path leads to the Sant'Antuono fort. Today, it's a small, almost unnoticed structure. But it once controlled access to the port. Here, you get a lovely view of the sea and city coast. It's a perfect spot to pause for a moment.
The garden is well-maintained and clean. During hot hours, it's a pleasant place to cool down in the shade, listening to the sea. The orderly paths invite leisurely walks to the Belvedere area, offering a nice view of Trani's port.
Inside the park, there's a playground for kids, a small bar, and even a little train that runs through the villa's paths. These simple features make it popular with both visitors and locals.
Walking here with my wife, I thought a visit to Trani could follow this rhythm: first the seafront, then the cathedral by the sea, and finally the Villa Comunale for a peaceful walk among the trees. After that, head back to the port and enjoy a nice dinner with a view of the water.
