My wife changes when she sees snow. I love skiing, but I hate crowds. So, we skipped Christmas and went to Cervinia with our new car in February.
The problem? Where to leave the car.
The Parking We Use in Winter
When we ski, we park at Cervino Ski Paradise. It's the paved lot at the Valtournenche cable car start. It costs 10 euros from 7:01 AM to 7:00 PM, but it's convenient. You're on skis right away, no walking in boots.
The first 30 minutes are free, handy if you just need to unload gear.
It's a well-maintained lot, not huge but functional. If it's open, you get direct access to Cervinia.
In the evening, after 7 PM, it drops to 1.50 euros per hour. Overnight, it's back to 10 euros. If you stay 24 hours, you pay 20 euros.
In summer, instead...
Last summer, we parked at the top of Via Circonvallazione, near the Tourist Office. It's convenient for starting walks. From there, you can hit the trails.
For those with electric cars
In Cervinia, they installed charging stations: 4 HyperCharge at 400 kW, 4 at 100 kW, and 10 at 22 kW. We don't need it with our new car, but it's a nice service.
The reflection
120 euros for two ski passes, plus 10 euros for parking, plus other costs... the mountains aren't cheap. But then I thought: even at the beach, in summer, you spend a lot on an umbrella and two loungers.
We don't do it often, but when we go, it's worth it.
My wife lights up when we hit the slopes. I always hope to lose a few extra pounds 😎.
