Find out how to avoid fines in Otranto's ZTL

What to know about ZTL and parking in Otranto

Visiting Otranto by car is totally doable. But in summer, know which areas have ZTL and where to park. A simple tip, especially in August: don't insist on parking close to the walls. Once you find a free spot, just stop there. Otranto is small, easy to walk around. Often, you waste more time searching for a better spot than walking to the center.

ZTL Hours and Streets in Otranto

Otranto's historic center is partly a limited traffic zone, especially from June to September.

The ZTL is usually active in the evening, from 7 PM to 2 AM. However, during events or busy times, restrictions may extend to daytime.

Restrictions mainly affect Via Vittorio Emanuele, Via Padre Scupoli, Via Lungomare Terra d'Otranto, and streets around the Cathedral and Aragonese Castle.

Access is mainly for residents, authorized vehicles, law enforcement, and hotel guests with permits. Entering by mistake during ZTL hours almost guarantees a fine, usually around 90 euros, plus verification and notification costs.

Where to Park in Otranto

In summer, especially late morning to early afternoon, near the walls, you might circle the same block twice waiting for a spot.

The area around Via Idro is often the first place people try to park when heading to the center.

It's busy even in the evening, so it's lively. You can reach the center with a short walk. Areas like Via San Giovanni Paolo II, Largo Porta Alfonsina, and Lungomare degli Eroi are also used.

Parking here helps avoid getting too close to ZTL gates during busy times.

Hourly rates are usually around 1.50-2 euros.

If you're staying in Otranto for several days, you might leave your car in the Via Renis area. This is a good choice if you don't want to drive often or if you plan boat trips and need a stable parking spot.

More Remote Parking and Summer Shuttles

There are also more remote parking areas, often free or cheaper, along SP366 or near the Alimini area.

During busy times, shuttles run to the center. In August, parking farther out and walking to the center can be more enjoyable, especially in the evening. Walking towards the walls and the seafront is part of the visit.
