Unforgettable day trip from Taranto to Martina Franca

Martina Franca is about 30 kilometers from Taranto. You can drive there in under 40 minutes. This makes it a convenient day trip from Taranto. It's perfect if you're short on time but want to explore Taranto and its province.

Located in the heart of the Itria Valley, Martina Franca is an elegant city. It's known for its baroque architecture, historic buildings, and light-toned historic center. The white facades contrast beautifully with the finely crafted stone details.

Walking through its narrow streets feels different from strolling in Taranto. But this is also part of Taranto's charm.

Here's a tip: when you arrive in Martina Franca, park your car. Don't try to drive close to the center. The town is small, and walking is worth it.

The city's heart is Piazza Maria Immacolata, also known as Piazza dei Portici. It's considered the main square of Martina Franca. I'd call it the city's living room. Beautiful palaces with porticoes, baroque buildings, and elegant wrought-iron balconies surround it, creating a unique scene.

The square keeps its ancient charm with basalt paving and semicircular arcades. This gives it a unique harmony. The atmosphere is both elegant and welcoming. It feels like you're invited to a party! Quite different from the isolation of working from home all year. In the background, the richly decorated facade of the Basilica of San Martino completes the view. This makes it one of the most fascinating spots in the entire Itria Valley. Being here in Piazza Maria Immacolata is truly beautiful, and you can feel all the beauty of Martina Franca.

From the main square, side streets lead to quieter alleys, stone arches, and hidden courtyards. These offer authentic, less touristy glimpses of the city.

For dinner, there's a wide choice to suit all tastes. My wife and I dined at DoCibus, just a few meters from Piazza Maria Immacolata. It was a very positive experience. Each dish impressed us with the quality of the ingredients, incredibly fresh and distinct.

We ordered scallops, pork fillet, and tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. The dishes were well-executed, flavorful, and served in generous portions. Even though we were full, we were pleasantly surprised by additional sides, like excellent focaccia. Even the condiments, like the vinegar, were top-notch. The hospitality was warm and genuine, making the dinner truly enjoyable. It's a recommended spot for those seeking well-prepared cuisine and authentic hospitality in the heart of the Itria Valley. At fair prices.
