Savelletri: Sea and Puglian Culture

Savelletri is an ideal destination for those seeking crystal-clear sea and Puglian culture.

Savelletri: Sea and Puglian Culture

Savelletri isn't about flashy attractions. It's a seaside village still tied to fishing. Even though tourism has grown a lot recently, its spirit remains unchanged. Every time I return, it feels familiar. It's so small, you'd never guess they hosted the G7 here! It feels like any charming Puglian village, nothing more. You come for the sea. But then you find yourself loving everything else and coming back.

The sea here is truly clear. But currents often stir it up, making it less crystal clear. The coast mixes low cliffs and coves, rocky or with small sandy patches. You can swim here in any weather 😎. The beaches aren't long stretches; they're broken up!

The beaches offer different options. There are organized places like Lido Ottagono and more exclusive beach clubs. But there are also free spots where you can lay your towel without fuss. You can choose: a sunbed and a seaside restaurant, or a simpler day on the rocks.

The heart of the village is still the small port. The fishermen's boats are there, not for show, but because they really work. In the evening, you see the boats return. At the waterfront restaurants, the catch is often from just a few hours earlier.

A few minutes away are the Egnazia Ruins, one of the area's most interesting archaeological sites. You can visit Egnazia in the morning and be back at the beach by afternoon. Convenient, right?

Logistically, the location is easy to manage. Savelletri is a part of Fasano and is near the Itria Valley. In less than an hour, you can reach Alberobello with its trulli or Ostuni overlooking the Adriatic. This lets you mix beach days with village tours without spending half your vacation driving.

At the table, you stay very local: seafood, orecchiette, extra virgin olive oil from nearby farms, and still-operating masserie. No need for artificial atmospheres. The food is great because the ingredients are top-notch.

In short, you come for the clear water and stay for the port's calm rhythm. You explore rocks and ruins stress-free, experiencing a real Puglia, not just the photo version.

We also chose a free sandy beach, but Savelletri offers more than beaches. Many prefer the rocks, which are great for swimming, diving, or snorkeling. We found free parking along the road and easy access. The only real downside is the crowding, especially on weekends and in August. For absolute peace, arrive early. But for convenience and services, it's a practical choice.

For dinner, we returned to Osteria del Porto, where we dined last year. We were happy to go back. The fish was super fresh. The seafood platter was the highlight. The sea urchin spaghetti was excellent, and the cavatelli with seafood were plentiful and well-made. Quick service too.
