Where to Stay Near Ostuni: Is Pascarosa Worth It?
Pascarosa is one of the most interesting areas to stay near Ostuni if you're looking for tranquility without moving too far from the main villages of Valle d'Itria. Here are the pros and cons, prices, distances, parking and why I would choose it again as a base for exploring the area.
If you prefer staying near Ostuni without the city's hustle, Pascarosa is a great choice. It's a district 300 meters high, nestled in the quiet Valle d'Itria. The evenings here are cooler than in the historic center.
From Pascarosa, you can explore Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca, and Ceglie Messapica in just 15 minutes by car. No need to change accommodations.
The area boasts many accommodations--B&Bs, trulli, and masserie, often new and with pools. The main draw isn't the price, which is similar to the center, but the private atmosphere. It's perfect for those seeking relaxation after a day of sightseeing.
To give you a concrete example, during one of my stays, I chose an entire house with a garden. It had two bedrooms and two bathrooms, suitable for up to four people. For a weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), I spent about 300 euros. This price is similar to what you find around Ostuni. The difference is more in the type of experience the area offers.
One thing to consider: evenings in Ostuni. If you want to go out in the historic center at night, you'll need to deal with parking. In summer, finding a spot nearby is tough. It's usually best to leave your car at Parcheggio Tenente Specchia. From there, the historic center is about a 5-minute walk, which is pleasant, especially on summer evenings.
Pascarosa isn't a town with shops or tourist attractions. Its center is small and develops around the little square. Here, you'll find the charming calvary and the church of Maria Santissima Vergine del Carmelo. It's a simple place that captures the authentic atmosphere of the Valle d'Itria countryside.
If I were to plan another trip to Valle d'Itria, I'd choose Pascarosa again. From here, it was easy for me to visit towns like Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca, and Ceglie Messapica in the same weekend. I also enjoyed some beach time at Torre Canne, which is about 20 kilometers away and has free beaches. It's a location that lets you easily switch between inland and coast.
