How to Reach the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Parking reservation, access by car, bus, and shuttles: everything you need to know before your visit
So, it's a good idea to plan your visit early. Book parking as soon as you pick a date. Below, you'll find info on reaching the Tre Cime di Lavaredo by car, camper, motorcycle, or public transport. To drive there, you can't just reach the scenic road toll. You must book online to access the Rifugio Auronzo parking.
How to get there by car and public transport
If you're driving, take the paved scenic road. It's about 6 kilometers long, starting near Lake Antorno in Auronzo di Cadore. This road leads directly to Rifugio Auronzo, at 2,333 meters high. There, you'll find the main parking lot, which is the start of the famous Tre Cime loop trail.
The road usually opens from late May to late October. But, dates can change due to weather conditions.
When booking, you must provide your vehicle's license plate. Without it, the system won't let you in. You can change the plate once before accessing.
Entry is through an automated toll that checks your booking against the registered plate.
The fees for 2026 are:
Car: 40 €
Motorcycle: 26 €
Camper and caravan: 60 €
Bus up to 30 seats: 80 €
Bus over 30 seats: 160 €
If you're planning to visit the Tre Cime in July or August, it's best to book parking early. Spots can fill up fast.
You can also reach the Tre Cime di Lavaredo by public transport. No need for a car. In summer, buses and shuttles go straight to Rifugio Auronzo, so parking isn't a problem. I tried this, but I wouldn't do it again. I faced a long line before boarding, which made my day start stressful. If you use public transport in July or August, try to catch an early bus. It's usually less crowded then.
The Dolomitibus company offers direct rides from Auronzo di Cadore and Cortina d'Ampezzo. There are connections from Calalzo di Cadore, where the nearest train station is. Buses go directly to Rifugio Auronzo, the starting point for the Tre Cime hike. Always check updated schedules before you leave, as they can change during the season.
If you're starting from DobbiacoDobbiaco, from mid-June to late September, the Shuttle 444 by SüdtirolMobil is available. It connects Dobbiaco train station to Rifugio Auronzo via Lago di Landro. You must book this service in advance.
A practical tip for July and August: avoid taking the bus from Misurina if you can. Long lines can form on busy days. It's usually better to start from Auronzo di Cadore. Choose an early morning bus when it's less crowded.
If you can choose when to visit, consider avoiding peak season. Even with mandatory booking, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo is a top summer spot in the Dolomites. In July and August, trails can be packed, and some charm might be lost.
If you can plan your trip for June, September, or early October, you'll likely have a more relaxed experience. There will be fewer people on the trails, and you'll have more chances to enjoy the scenery and take photos calmly.
