Evening drinks and fun in Otranto

We were traveling by camper around Salento. That morning, we visited Baia dei Turchi. It's one of those beaches where time slows down, with clear water and pine trees. We hadn't been to lower Salento for a while. Seeing those colors again reminded us why this area is so special. But we noticed prices have gone up a lot. So, traveling by camper was a smart choice.

In the evening, we moved to Otranto. At sunset, something special happens. Monuments, beaches, and the Mediterranean scrub become a backdrop for leisure time. That's when aperitivo time starts, and tables in the historic center slowly fill up.

That evening, we just wanted a quiet place to drink after a day at the beach. Spinnaker was perfect: a spot by the water, with background music and drinks for 10 euros. It's not a place for dancing, but the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. Perfect for chatting while watching the sea. By chance, we met some friends from Milan, and the evening lasted much longer than expected. It was one of those unplanned nights you remember fondly. After a walk in Otranto's center, we decided to go dancing. That's when I realized something: in Otranto, you can do a bit of everything in the evening. From strolling through alleys and having a relaxed aperitivo to clubbing along the coast.

In the historic center, walking through the stone streets, you easily reach Piazza del Popolo. There you'll find "L'ora di mezzo," one of the busiest cocktail bars to start the evening. I didn't try it that night, but it's often recommended as a go-to spot for aperitivo in the city.

If you prefer something lively, check out lungomare Terra d'Otranto. There, you'll find "Fuorirotta" beach, famous for DJ nights. They turn the beach into a real party.

Head a bit north to the Alimini lakes, and the coast feels more natural. It's less urban here. You'll find spots like "Ficodindia" beach, surrounded by Mediterranean greenery.

If you want to dance late into the night, check out the Alimini-Otranto coast. There are popular spots like "Just" and "Bahia" with dance floors by the sea.

Another place I know well is Malè Costa del Sud. I returned after about ten years and it's still great. They often play '80s and '90s music. The vibe is lively, and the DJs really know how to get the crowd moving. It's funny because we came here when we were young. My wife and I used to visit before we even met. Thinking about it now feels surreal--life takes some amazing turns.
