Diving Competition in Polignano

Polignano a Mare hosts the spectacular high diving competition, part of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, attracting visitors from around the world.

Diving Competition in Polignano

The Red Bull Cliff Diving in Polignano a Mare is one of the most spectacular events you can see live in Puglia. Platforms are set up directly on the cliffs, and athletes dive into the void in front of the famous Lama Monachile cove.

Experiencing it live is truly special. The town becomes a natural amphitheater, with thousands watching from terraces, balconies, and cliffs. The atmosphere is electric, and the anticipation before each dive creates a sudden silence, followed by applause.

Personally, I found it more impressive live than on TV. Watching from Polignano's terraces, you really grasp the height and courage needed to dive. TV shows technical details better, but live, you feel the cliff's real size and the dive's impact into the sea.

That said, I must admit I prefer Polignano without the event. During peak season, the town is already full of tourists. The narrow streets in the historic center can get really crowded.

On event day, it gets even busier. Tons of people come, making it hard to find a good spot to watch the dives. So, you might not enjoy the place as much. People mostly come for the atmosphere and the unique cliffs of Polignano. They want to see how the whole town transforms during the event.

The event usually happens between June and July. During those days, Polignano a Mare gets very crowded. If you want to watch the competition, it's best to arrive early. Pick a good spot along the terraces or near Lama Monachile. We came from Bitonto by train. It was a great choice because finding parking by car would have been much harder. We probably would have spent more time looking for a spot than traveling. With regional trains, we spent very little and arrived right in the city, just steps from the diving area.
