Discover the enchanting nightlife of Brindisi

A few years ago, Brindisi was just a stopover for me. I landed at the airport, picked up a car, and headed straight to Lecce, where I spent my entire vacation. I saw little of Brindisi, just the port from the plane: water stretching into the city and its closeness to the sea. Even then, looking out the window, I wondered why I didn't stay a few days. Lecce is beautiful and close to the coast, but the beaches require driving and some planning. In Brindisi, the sea is right in the city, much more immediate and accessible. So, the next year, I made a different choice: not just a quick stop, but a real vacation in Brindisi, to enjoy it slowly and see if my hunch from the plane was right.

That's how I experienced Brindisi: a vacation just how I like it, relaxing by day and enjoyable at night. During the day, I relaxed for hours at the Materdomini public beach in the city. It was easy because I chose a B&B in the historic center, so every morning I walked to catch the number 4 city bus at the train station square in the city center. The bus is convenient, running every 30 minutes, dropping you at the beach entrance, and returning you to the station. With a few more stops, I could reach a nearby equipped beach, not free but affordable and beautiful, like Lido Granchio Rosso.

The beach is quite clean and not too crowded, with pebbles and some fine sand. It's great for families with kids, especially in quieter areas. It's good to bring an umbrella, a chair, and maybe lunch, as services are basic. I didn't have an umbrella since I came by bus, but I stayed just a few hours, and it was fine.

In the evening, I enjoyed staying in the historic center, first trying local dishes at a restaurant and then having ice cream at Betty Cafe.

For evening fun in Brindisi, head to the area between the lungomare Regina Margherita, Piazza Vittoria, and Piazza Duomo. That's where you'll find bars, restaurants, pubs, and live music venues.

It's not just a random choice, but also practical. Brindisi, like all of Puglia, gets very hot in summer. This area is closest to the sea, so it's breezier and cooler in the evening thanks to the harbor breeze. I've also noticed that average costs are lower compared to Lecce. Restaurants, bars, and B&Bs seem more affordable. Probably because Brindisi is less crowded and sought after by mass tourism. It keeps prices more balanced while offering good services and quality. Like Lecce, Brindisi is very hot in midsummer. The sun is strong, and midday temperatures are high. The difference is that being close to the sea helps more in the evening. But August is still intense. That's why I thought next time I might choose June instead of August. Same sea, same light, but more manageable heat and a more livable city.

The convenient thing is you can easily walk around. Leave your car parked in the center or nearby. Parking spots aren't many, so think twice before moving your car. After dinner, I just walked along Viale Regina Margherita. A bit further, I found a group playing live music outdoors. People stopped, some sat on benches, others stood listening with the sea in front. A simple but really pleasant atmosphere.
