Lake Lod Chamois

Lago di Lod is the walk that almost everyone takes during a visit to Chamois. I'll tell you what you'll find once you get there, how much time you really need and whether, in my experience, it's worth adding to your itinerary.

Lake Lod Chamois

During my visit to Chamois, after exploring the town center, I decided to head to Lago di Lod. It's the walk almost everyone takes when they arrive here. It starts right from the village, takes little time, and suits nearly everyone.

A simple walk that completes your visit to Chamois

From Chamois center, you can reach Lago di Lod with a 30-minute walk. Alternatively, when it's open, you can use the chairlift. This shortens the walking distance even more.

The hike isn't difficult and is suitable for families too. Once there, you'll find a large area with tables and benches, many shaded by pine trees. It's perfect for a picnic or just relaxing in nature. There are also some fountains, handy for refilling water bottles before heading back.

Near the chairlift station, there's a cabin where you can have lunch. One specialty is freshly grilled meat. It's great for those who prefer a hot meal over a packed lunch.

Lago di Lod isn't a big alpine lake. If you expect a spectacular view, you might be a bit disappointed. But, I think it's worth visiting for the whole experience: the walk in the woods, the silence, the large picnic area under the pines, and the chance to relax at the cabin before heading back to town.

I've visited in both summer and winter. Personally, I prefer winter. Fewer people change the atmosphere completely. The silence becomes almost absolute. The sun lights up the snowy plain, enhancing the peaceful feeling that defines Chamois. It's one of those places where you naturally stop on a bench and just enjoy the view.

If you're short on time and only want to see the historic center, you can skip this stop. But if you're spending the whole day in Chamois, Lago di Lod is the best way to fully experience the area and capture the true spirit of this corner of Valle d'Aosta.
