Parking in Cisternino: 5 Minutes from the Clock Tower
Two Free Parking Areas Tried in Person, with Details on Slopes, Steps, Road Surface, Accessibility and Available Spaces
If you want to visit Cisternino, don't try parking near the village, especially in summer and on weekends. The historic area is a ZTL (limited traffic zone), and finding a free spot is tough even before you get there. I've seen more than one ticket given to tourists who missed the signs.
I prefer to leave my car as soon as I enter the town. The distance isn't a problem: by walking through other parts of the town, you start to get to know it before reaching the center. The town is peaceful even on the outskirts, so I park without worries even in the farthest lots. If you prefer parking in a designated area, finding a spot isn't hard.
The town is well-equipped with free parking areas outside: a 10-15 minute walk gets you to the central area. To find your way, use the Clock Tower as a reference point, located in the heart of the historic center.
The parking I recommend is one of the newest: it's outside the center, in a green area with views of the fields. It's a simple lot, without covered spaces and with a partially paved grid surface.
The entrance can be tricky for low cars. A friend with a sports car couldn't use it. The first time, in the dark and distracted, I didn't notice and the car jolted.
From there, you can reach the town more easily, but you need to climb several dozen steps, some paved and some dirt. It's better to wear sneakers for the walk.
Another option is a free parking lot about 5 minutes from the center. This route is also uphill, but the parking is paved and has many spaces. There's also a Carrefour supermarket nearby, handy if you need to buy something before your visit.
I've tried both and think they're good ways to reach the center quickly.
