Cala Paura: Sea and Adventure

Just a few minutes from the historic center of Polignano a Mare, in the province of Bari, lies Lido Cala Paura, one of the most beloved coves along the Apulian coast. This small rocky bay is the perfect spot for those seeking a mix of clear sea, nature, adventure, and a touch of comfort.

Cala Paura is a mixed cove: it offers both free spaces where you can lay your towel on the rocks and soak up the sun, as well as a well-equipped area with sunbeds and umbrellas. The lido stretches along the rocky coastline, but what stands out is the presence of a wooden solarium, very comfortable, where you can sunbathe in complete relaxation. The solarium is well-kept and offers an exceptional view of the azure sea of Polignano.

Just a bit further from the equipped area, nature has crafted a true hidden wonder: a natural pool formed by the rocks surrounding a protected and tranquil stretch of water. The water here is clear and calm, and the sensation is that of swimming in a small secret corner of the Mediterranean. Perfect for those who want to take a relaxing swim without the open sea waves.

Cala Paura is also famous for another feature: its natural "trampolines." Along the coast, there are various elevated points from which you can dive safely, thanks to the deep seabed – in some areas exceeding 3 meters. The rocks form real natural platforms at different heights. It’s the ideal place for diving enthusiasts, but always with caution: it’s important to observe where to dive and check the sea conditions.

Cala Paura is not just about relaxation and diving. It is also one of the starting points for those who want to experience the sea actively, with SUP (Stand Up Paddle) excursions. SUP excursions allow you to explore the marine caves along the coast of Polignano, passing by spectacular cliffs and hidden corners. You can paddle along the coast to the famous Lama Monachile, admiring the ancient village from the water. It is advisable to book with one of the local schools or guides that organize these outings, often at sunset or in the early morning hours.

Lido Cala Paura is located about a 10-minute walk from the historic center of Polignano a Mare. Those arriving by car can park in one of the paid public parking areas nearby, but in summer it can be difficult to find a spot. The recommendation is to arrive early in the morning or alternatively consider public transport or bicycles. Once you arrive, just follow the signs for "Cala Paura" or ask the locals: it is a well-known spot.

The best time to visit Cala Paura is between May and September. In July and August, it can get very crowded, especially on weekends. June and September are perfect for enjoying the sea with more tranquility.

It’s important to bring along water shoes or sandals with rubber soles, high-protection sunscreen, a snorkeling mask, water and snacks (there aren’t many refreshment points in the cove itself), a beach towel, and if possible, a personal umbrella if you choose the free area.

Cala Paura is a small paradise for those who love authentic sea experiences. No sandy beaches, but smooth stones and rocks shaped by time. The sea is deep, clean, and full of life. Here you can spend a day between diving, sunbathing, and excursions, in an untouched natural setting just a stone's throw from one of the most beautiful villages in Puglia.
