Borgo Antico Bistrot in Ostuni: How Much Does It Cost to Eat with One of the Best Views in Town?
Discover Borgo Antico Bistrot in Ostuni, a unique place for an unforgettable aperitif.
In Ostuni, the most photographed spots often have the best views. But Borgo Antico Bistrot stands out for two reasons: the view and the atmosphere.
Sitting at the outdoor tables, you can see the Piana degli Ulivi. It surrounds Ostuni and separates it from the Parco delle dune costiere. Before sunset, the contrast of white houses, green olive trees, and golden light explains why many stop here just for a drink.
The other sign is even clearer. Every time I pass by, tables are full, and people wait for a spot. The place is in the heart of the historic center, close to the cathedral of Ostuni. On busy nights, it's best to arrive early. The spot's success is easy to explain: great location, cozy vibe, and it satisfies both quick drinkers and those staying longer.
Ten euros show why it's so famous
The Aperitivo Pugliese convinced me the most. It's 10 euros per person, for at least two people, drinks not included. It includes seasoned friselline, local cheeses and meats, typical fried snacks, and fried bread with fava bean puree and peppers.
If you want to enjoy the view without spending much, it's probably the best choice. It's not just a symbolic snack with your drink. It's a tasting of various typical Puglian products.
Among the drinks, I really liked the Primitivo Vecchia Torre. It's served by the glass for 5 euros. Finding a nice wine at this price in a touristy area of Puglia is rare. It's a great choice with meats, cheeses, and friselle.
The platters deserve a mention too. The ingredients are fresh, and you can enjoy combinations from capocollo with figs to Faeto ham with melon.
If you decide to stay for a bigger meal after the aperitif, know that Borgo Antico Bistrot isn't cheap. You'll notice this quickly when browsing the menu.
Friselle start at 5 euros for the classic version and go up to 9 euros for Acqua Sale. Puccie are all 9 euros, whether simple or with special ingredients like burrata, Faeto ham, octopus, or smoked salmon.
Salads range from 9 to 15 euros. A Caprese costs 9 euros, while versions with grilled octopus or smoked salmon reach 15 euros. Platters start at 15 euros for capocollo and figs or Faeto ham and melon, rise to 25 euros for cheese, and go up to 27 euros for cheese and cold cuts.
The wine list also falls in the mid-high price range. The cheapest bottles are around 20 euros. Many labels are between 22 and 33 euros, and some exceed 40 euros.
Doing the math, a couple ordering an aperitif, two glasses of wine, and a platter easily spends between 35 and 50 euros. Add more dishes or a bottle of wine, and the bill rises quickly.
Yet, it's hard to feel like you've overspent. The quality of the ingredients is clear, the product selection is thoughtful, the service is quick despite the crowd, and the view of the Ostuni countryside adds a value that's hard to quantify in the final bill.
If you want to spend less, the 10-euro Aperitivo Pugliese is the smartest choice. But if you stay for dinner, expect above-average prices. In both cases, Borgo Antico Bistrot is one of those places that helps explain why Ostuni keeps attracting visitors from all over Europe.
