Best Parking Options for Visiting Gallipoli Historic Center
Find out the best parking options for visiting the historic center of Gallipoli.
Visiting Gallipoli by car in summer can be tough. Especially in the evenings from July to August. The city gets busy during high season. People come for the beaches, restaurants, and evening life in the old town. The main issues are finding parking and avoiding traffic near the bridge and old town entrance.
If you want to be close to the old town, the port parking is the easiest option.
If you prefer to skip summer traffic and don't mind a 20-minute walk, the cemetery area is probably more relaxing.
Personally, I'd rather park further out and plan for a 20-minute walk. It's better than getting stuck in traffic or wasting time looking for a free spot.
Many try parking near Lungomare Galileo Galilei and Lungomare Marconi. There are lots of blue parking spots along the road. It's convenient for reaching the old town. But in summer evenings, that area gets crowded quickly.
Gallipoli Port Parking
The port parking is probably the best choice if you want to stay close to the historic center without entering Gallipoli's old ZTL. From here, you can quickly reach both the center and the Purità Beach, as well as areas where various boat tours start.
Arriving in the morning, you can still find a spot fairly easily. In the evening, though, the parking gets crowded, especially on summer weekends.
The area has many paid parking spaces with blue lines, and the spots are quite spacious, even for longer cars. Before the paid area, there are a few free spots with white lines, but they fill up quickly.
For payment, there are easy-to-use kiosks: just enter your license plate and the expected parking time. You can pay with either card or coins. The daily cost is around 10-12 euros.
Cemetery Parking
The cemetery parking is a more outlying option, but it's often more relaxing to manage in summer.
Out of season, parking is free, but from June 1 to September 30, it becomes paid. The area is organized and helps you avoid the congestion near the port and the old city entrance.
From here, you can walk to the historic center along Corso Roma. Nearby, there's also an MD supermarket, handy for those coming from outside the city who want to stop quickly before heading to the historic center.
