Belvedere Santa Lucia in Alberobello
Belvedere Santa Lucia offers breathtaking views of Alberobello and its trulli, ideal for unforgettable photographs.
Belvedere Santa Lucia: my favorite spot in Alberobello (especially after that amazing experience!)
If there's one place where you truly understand why Alberobello is a UNESCO site, it's here: the Belvedere Santa Lucia. It's named after the nearby little church. Basically, it's an elevated terrace offering the most beautiful and iconic view of Rione Monti: a real sea of trulli with their gray cone-shaped roofs, chimneys decorated with strange shapes (stars, hearts, inverted cones), and pinnacles perfect for postcard photos.
As soon as you climb up, a spectacle unfolds, especially when afternoon or sunset light changes everything: the trulli turn pink, gold, and orange...
My favorite moment? Sunset. Swallows dart crazily in the sky, the sun slowly sets, lighting up the domes in an unreal way. Then there's the nighttime version: with lights on, the trulli become magical, and the crowd thins out a lot - I highly recommend it if you want to enjoy it peacefully.
I first visited in July 2023, right during the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show celebrating Puglia in Alberobello. What an incredible experience! The village buzzed with energy: models wore giant trullo-shaped hats, and lace dresses with embroidery inspired by trulli decorations and ancient local crafts like straw weaving. It was surreal to see high fashion mixed with this fairy-tale landscape, international stars, photographers everywhere, and a dreamy atmosphere. The Belvedere was packed that day! I must say, I spent two days in Alberobello, and it's usually crowded. So, if you plan to visit quickly, know that a day is more than enough to see the village calmly (trulli, Belvedere, historic center, and maybe a short trip outside). I stayed two days to enjoy it without stress and catch the special event, but if you're short on time, one day is plenty.
Every time I return, I spend some time there, even if you often have to wait for your turn for the classic photo from above (especially at sunset, with tourists, influencers, and couples all set). But trust me: every second of patience is worth it.
It's super easy to reach: start from Villa Comunale, and in a few minutes on foot, you're there, right between the "new" part of the city and the historic trulli center. All free, no ticket needed, just the line for the perfect shot 😅.
If you want to see how it looked during those magical days (and the stunning view), here's my video
In short, if you go to Alberobello and skip the Belvedere Santa Lucia... you're missing the heart of the village.
