B&B or Masseria in Ostuni

Discover whether a B&B or a masseria is better for your vacation in Ostuni, Puglia.

B&B or Masseria in Ostuni

What does a bed & breakfast in the Ostuni area offer?   Many B&Bs are located in the historic center or nearby. They are often renovated typical houses, with stone vaults and small terraces with a view. They offer homemade breakfast, sometimes served on the terrace or in the garden. They are an economical choice: you can sleep for 80-120 € a night, breakfast included.

And the masserie? What kind of experience do they offer?   Masserie are former country farms transformed into charming places. They are located among centuries-old olive trees, just a few kilometers from the sea. Many have pools, organic gardens, yoga, and gourmet dinners. They often offer tasting menus, locally produced olive oil, and wine tasting. Everything is designed to provide a slow, elegant, sensory experience.

How much do masserie cost in Ostuni?   A room in a high-level masseria starts at around 250 € a night. The most exclusive structures, like Masseria Moroseta or Masseria Cervarolo, easily exceed 400-500 € a night. However, the price includes gourmet breakfast, absolute tranquility, and unique architectural design. Some even offer cooking classes, boat trips, or e-bike excursions.

Is it worth paying so much to stay in a masseria?   If your goal is to experience Puglia with all your senses, the answer is yes. It’s not just a place to sleep: it’s a refuge, an experience you will remember. You walk among the olive trees, have breakfast overlooking the valley, and dine under the stars. Every detail is curated, every moment feels like it’s come out of an indie film. It’s the very idea of the Italian “dolce far niente,” transformed into hospitality.

And if I choose a B&B? Am I missing out?   Not necessarily. With a B&B, you save money and maybe stay right in the heart of Ostuni. You have more freedom to explore, eat out every night, and take day trips. You can choose where to have dinner, perhaps in a hidden trattoria. Some B&Bs even have terraces with views and a very family-like welcome.

Who should choose a masseria?   Those who want to completely disconnect. Those who love silence, design, and slow cooking. Those who don’t want to do too much each day but enjoy the time. Ideal for honeymooning couples, for those celebrating something, or for those seeking inspiration.

And who should prefer a B&B?   Those on a limited budget but still want a good base. Those who prefer to be close to bars, restaurants, and squares. Those with an explorer spirit who want to see a new place every day. Great for solo travelers, or with friends, or even with family.

What did I decide, an American tourist?   In the end, I chose two nights in a masseria and two in a B&B. I start my vacation in the tranquility of the countryside, among olive trees and a pool. Then I move to the center of Ostuni to experience the city and its flavors. This way, I get the best of both worlds: relaxation and discovery, luxury and authenticity.

What do I take home?   The scent of olive trees, the golden light of the sunset in the countryside. The chat with the lady of the B&B, the coffee at the bar in the square. A perfect balance between experience and practicality. And the memory of a true Puglia, made of land, sea, and hospitality.
