All About the Limited Traffic Zones of Cortina 2026
The Olympic ZTLs of Cortina 2026 regulate access to ensure safety and fluidity during the Games.
ZTLs are limited traffic zones. Cars can enter only with strict control and authorization. ZTLs will be active only on race days, during specific hours. They cover the entire Cortina d'Ampezzo area, as described below.
During activation, access is allowed only for vehicles with a Pass Auto Territori. This pass must be displayed on the windshield when entering ZTLs. Without a valid pass, entry is denied at checkpoints.
The pass system ensures mobility for:
residents and second home owners
commuting workers
businesses and production activities
accommodations and their guests
delivery and logistics services
other expressly authorized categories
From February 1, 2026, only Daily Auto Passes are available. They're valid for one chosen day.
Once inside ZTLs, you can move and exit freely. But entry remains controlled.
The three ZTL zones
This is the tightest security perimeter around the venues:
Olympic Ice Stadium (curling)
Sliding Centre (bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge)
Tofane Area (women's alpine skiing)
➡️ No standard auto pass allows access.
Entry requires a specific VAPP, with enhanced security checks and a separate registration on the official platform.
Without a VAPP, access to Zone 0 is always prohibited.
This includes areas near the venues.
Stadium / Bob / Revis Zone
Olympic period: February 4-22, 2026
Paralympic period: March 4-15, 2026
Activation hours: 07:00 - 23:00
Tofane Zone
Active only on women's alpine skiing race days:February 8, 10, 12, 15, and 18, 2026
Hours: 06:00 - 17:00
➡️ To access Zone 1, you need the purple pass.
The purple pass also allows access to lower zones (Zone 2).
This covers the entire Cortina d'Ampezzo area.
➡️ To enter the general ZTL areas, you need the yellow pass.
The SS51 is always accessible with the Zone 2 pass, even on race days.
The two traffic scenarios
Rules change based on the active scenario that day.
This applies only during the 5 race days on Tofane:February 8, 10, 12, 15, and 18, 2026.
On these days:
The purple Zone 1 extends along SR48, from via Lungoboite to Pocol
West-east transit is blocked without a purple pass
You can't cross Cortina to or from Giau and Falzarego passes without authorization
All access filters are at maximum level
➡️ Without a purple pass, transit is stopped.
This applies:
On all other Olympic days (February 4-22, except the 5 days of Scenario 1)
Throughout the Paralympic period (March 4-15, 2026)
In this scenario:
The purple Zone 1 is limited to areas around the Stadium, Sliding Centre, and Revis parking
The Tofane area (from Pocol to Corona bridge) follows Zone 2 rules
You can reach Cortina from the west, north, and south with just the yellow pass
The SS51 remains open for transit
How to request the pass
You can only request it online at:https://passauto.milanocortina2026.orghttps://passauto.milanocortina2026.org
In the "Request" section, check if your arrival or address needs a pass and which type.
⚠️ Practical tip: Always check the day's scenario (Scenario 1 or 2) on the official platform. Restrictions change, and on busy days, arriving without the correct pass means getting stopped at checkpoints.
What I'll do: I'll take the train! It's safer and more comfortable. During the Olympics, there will be extra train services https://www.trenord.it/olimpiadi-milano-cortina-2026/
But if you've booked a hotel or parking in the restricted area, make sure to give your vehicle's license plate to the accommodation. They will forward it to the Local Police to avoid fines.
If you really need a car, remember there's Uber.
UberUber is officially active in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The service is available via the app, allowing you to request a ride and pay directly through it; many rides are in collaboration with local taxis.
Cortina is also among the Italian cities covered by Uber. For the Milano Cortina 2026, where Uber is an official sponsor, the ride-hailing service has been enhanced, increasing options for travel to Olympic venues, main airports, and long-distance connections between Milan and Cortina.
During the Games, experimental initiatives like the "Uber Snowmobile" have been introduced. It's a special, limited-availability service for snow travel in specific areas and times.
